Book Review – “The Missing Cryptoqueen: The Billion Dollar Cryptocurrency Con and the Woman Who Got Away with It”

After listening to the BBC Sounds podcast, I picked up Jamie Bartlett’s “The Missing Cryptoqueen” to learn more about the story of OneCoin, a cryptocurrency scam that defrauded countless investors out of billions of dollars. I was not disappointed.

This informative book explores the rise and fall of OneCoin. Bartlett’s detailed research and engaging storytelling create a compelling read that is both entertaining and educational.

I have to applaud Bartlett’s ability to explain complex technologies making it understandable for readers who may not have a deep background in finance or cryptocurrency, without dumbing it down. His concise writing provides a thorough overview of the world of cryptocurrency and the specific features of OneCoin that made it so attractive to investors.

At the heart of the book is the story of Dr Ruja Ignatova, the charismatic leader of OneCoin who vanished without a trace in 2017. Bartlett’s investigation into Ignatova’s life and the workings of the OneCoin organisation is captivating. He portrays a woman who was both brilliant and ruthless.

The Missing Cryptoqueen is a must-read for anyone interested in cryptocurrency, financial crime, or the psychology of deception.

Bartlett’s insightful analysis and compelling narrative make this book a real page-turner, leaving its readers informed and entertained.

I highly recommend it!
